The “Ventidio Ciarrocca” Farm, is a three generation family-run business and carries out its activity in Santo Stefano di Sessanio, in the heart of the Gran Sasso National Park, producing the famous lentil.
The company’s goal is not a massive production, but rather a small, high quality one, obtained by taking care of every aspect, from the harvest to the packaging, being sure of giving a great product from every point of view.
The sale is directly from the producer to the consumer, without intermediaries, with commitment and dedication.
The most characterizing production is definitely the Santo Stefano lentils , which are very small (3-4 mm) and very tasty, with globular shape and brownish colour with slight purple nuances.
This legume, known since antiquity, has very high nutritional and energetic values.
The cultivation is carried out according to traditional methods, from accurately and carefully preserved seeds to guarantee genuineness and authenticity.
With the same interest in local crops, the farm also produces:
- Red mountain spelt (red triticum dicoccum): particularly suited for soups or for being cooked as a kind of
- “Solina” wheat flour;
- A bean variety called “Poverello”;
- Mountain potatoes and a kind of potato called “Turchesa”;
- Olive Oil;
The farm lands are located in the small valleys between Santo Stefano di Sessanio and Campo Imperatore plain, over 1250 meters.
The small size of the plots and the characteristic colours of different cultivation characterize the territory making it unique.
